January: Mark
your calendar for when your animals are due for their annual checkup and
vaccinations this year. It is also a good idea to get your dog and cat's teeth
cleaned annually.
February: Chocolate can be deadly to animals. Be sure
to keep your Valentine sweets out of their reach.
March: This is the
time of the year when mosquitoes start to hatch. Be sure to keep your dog and
cat on a heart worm and flea preventative year round. Make sure your have your
dog heart worm tested yearly.
April: Easter is a time when people are
tempted to give rabbits and chicks as gifts. Many of them end up living
horrible, short lives. Give stuffed animals instead.
May: As summer
approaches and vacations are planned, check to make sure your pet's I.D. is
current in case you have to leave them in someone else's care while your are
traveling. HAVE YOUR PET MICRO-CHIPPED and update your pet's microchip registry
information.
June: Another heavy storm season is coming. Be sure you
have a safe way to transport your pets and a place to take them in case you have
to evacuate.
July: Fireworks can scare animals. Be sure to keep them
somewhere safe when you and your neighbors celebrate Independence Day. We have

August: A summer outing
on a lake or the ocean can be a lot of fun with your dog along. Be sure to
outfit your dog with a life jacket in case of an emergency.
September:
The cold weather months are just around the corner. Protect your pets by
keeping them inside and having a disaster plan in place for them in case you
lose power for an extended period of time. Keep using flea and heart worm
protection year round!
October: Halloween is a dangerous time for black
cats. Cats should always be kept indoors, but it is especially important around
this holiday so no harm comes to them.
November: Thanksgiving is a time
to indulge in tasty food and treats. Many of the foods are too rich to share
with pets. Be sure to give them treats that are healthy for them. Baby carrots
and green beans are healthy and low calorie!
December: Pine needles,
tinsel, ornaments, tree lights, holiday candy and poinsettias can be harmful to
pets. Be sure to take safety precautions to prevent your animals
from ingesting these dangerous holiday items. Keep using flea and heart worm
protection year round!
